New Year, New Board, New Beginnings

Hello Neighbors! Some of you may know me as Bekah the Elf, some of you may recognize me as the lady who talks on the mic at the Easter event with an energy drink in hand, and a few of you may just remember me as ‘the eldest’ of the Wachholz clan. For those of you I haven’t met, my name is Rebekah Wachholz, and I’m honored to have been selected to take the mantle of acting WBNA president this year.

My family moved to Wells Branch in 1993 and growing up I was very lucky to have an incredible mom to look up to as a pillar in the community who volunteered for pretty much every neighborhood board that existed. I remember going to all the community events, going door to door delivering the newsletters out of a red flyer wagon, selling snow cones at Fourth Fest with the Girl Scouts, winning the fishing competition at Mills Pond, competing in the Armada, being on the soccer team (the purple uniforms were fire), and countless fireworks shows. Most of my childhood was spent at the WB community events, pool, fields, or library.

I went away in 2008 for college at UTSA (Go Roadrunners), then moved across the country three times for work, but something kept bringing me back here, to the community that just felt like home. This neighborhood has changed so much since 1993 – we went from 800 to over 4000 newsletters being delivered each cycle, there are multiple new homes, schools, and businesses in the WB, and let’s just admire that amazing dog park off Sauls – my dogs love going out to meet the other good boys and girls – we love the naptime that follows!

One thing that has not changed throughout the years is the WBNA being a backbone of our community, and in order for us to continue to provide the amazing events that create such great memories, we need people like YOU to step up and give back to the WBNA.

Three ways you can help:

  1. Join the WBNA as a member! Current membership is only $25 for the ENTIRE YEAR – that’s only 5 Starbucks drinks a year!
  2. Already a member? Consider an additional one time donation to the WBNA to help offset the increased costs of materials for the events and newsletters.
  3. Join the Board! We have an election on Feb 6 and are still looking for board members. If you are interested, please email rebekahwachholz@gmail.com and we can meet to discuss the new board’s vision for 2025.

I love this community. There is something unique about Wells Branch that you don’t find in most places anymore. Help us to keep this place magical! And please come join us at the election at the Community Center on Feb 6 at 6:30pm to make your voice heard in the electoral process!
