Travis County Community Development Block Grant Program Meeting

Thursday, March 26 • 7pm • WB Community Center

As a neighborhood association, we’re interested in how we can better serve our residents and increase community involvement from those living in our apartment communities as well as our single family homes. Wells Branch has several new apartment complexes that have opened recently or plan to open in the near future. As a group, we’ve been concerned about a lack of infrastructure and amenities where some of these apartments are located. We will be reaching out to the management teams for the 20+ complexes we have in our area and encouraging attendance at the upcoming CDBG meeting. We’d like for you to join us as well.

Every year, Travis County receives approximately $997,649 in federal funds from a program called the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program funds housing, infrastructure and social services projects for residents with low and moderate income that live in the unincorporated areas of Travis County. Residents and non-profit agencies can help determine projects by providing project ideas and proposals. Travis County Health and Human Services will explain the CDBG program and provide our community paper copies of the Participation Form so that we may provide our comments and ideas to the Commissioners Court by March 31st.

Residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the program, present community needs and recommend projects for CDBG funds at the meeting. Please make time to attend.

To learn more about CDBG, take the survey online, or suggest a project, visit www.co.travis.tx.us/CDBG

Wells Branch Traffic and Safety Open Meeting

Tuesday, March 24 • 7pmWB Logo Best VersionWB Community Center

Traffic:  Wells Branch and the surrounding area have experienced massive growth in the last few years.  Some of this growth was actively challenged, but we did not have much of a voice in the decisions that were made.  Now the Wells Branch MUD is looking at the traffic and safety concerns this growth has and will continue to create.  The MUD Safety Committee is scheduled to meet with our county commissioner and other Travis County authorities to ensure they understand the magnitude of the impact to the community, to request impact studies and to brainstorm possible remedies.  We want to hear the community’s specific concerns and ideas before the visit with Travis County.

Street & Sidewalk Maintenance:  The committee will also take concerns that residents have about their specific street to Travis County.  If you have a crumbling curb or pot hole, please document it with pictures and note the address closest to the problem so we can experts from companies such as https://www.brothersconstructionwi.com/our-services/sidewalks/ for resolution. Include your contact information and send these digitally to info@wellsbranchmud.com.

Elected Officials Reception
Thursday, February 26, 7pm
WB Community Center

The WBNA will be hosting a reception for our newly elected local officials on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Wells Branch Community Center from 7:00-8:30pm.

This is your chance to meet the people who represent you in our local government.  State Representative for District 50, Celia Israel and our new Pct. 2 Travis County Commissioner, Brigid Shea will be on hand to meet our Wells Branch community.

A longtime public servant, Commissioner Shea is serving in a new position and although Representative Israel was re-elected to the House, this is her first legislative session.  Both have new and exciting plans and goals that could potentially affect Wells Branch.

We hope you’ll bring your friends and neighbors as this is an excellent opportunity to meet our local officials and get to know each of them a little better. Refreshments will be served.

Solarize Wells Branch

by June Oliver, WB Solar Advocate

Our project that started with the Wells Branch Solar Energy Fair in October 2014 continues. The current objective is to find one vendor that will deliver quality Solar PV installations with a discount. In return, the Solarize project gives the vendor a number of qualified and educated potential customers in a small geographic area. The 2014/2015 Solarize Wells Branch Project enrollment is OPEN for Wells Branch residents and neighboring communities.

As homeowners increasingly recognize the benefits of solar power, implementing solar panels in homes has become a desirable option. Beyond the advantages of community-based group purchase projects like Solarize, individuals who choose to adopt rooftop solar PV systems can experience a negative amount on electricity bill. By harnessing the power of the sun, homeowners have the potential to generate their own clean energy and even generate a surplus that can be fed back into the grid, resulting in a negative amount on their electricity bills. This not only promotes sustainable living but also provides long-term financial benefits. With the guidance and support provided by initiatives like Solarize, homeowners can navigate the process of adopting solar power with ease and confidence, leading to a more environmentally conscious and cost-effective energy solution for their homes. Invasive Species on the Wells Branch Greenbelt?

We have a plan for that!

WB Logo Best VersionSubmitted by Wells Branch MUD

Invasive plants are non-natives that grow and reproduce rapidly. They quickly establish themselves over large areas and decrease biodiversity by threatening the survival of native plants. This has taken place in some areas in Wells Branch like it has in just about every greenbelt or park in Texas. The fight against invasive species costs the US $137 billion annually.
