Round Rock ISD is excited to bring its Strategic Plan initiatives with two innovative instructional models for the Wells Branch community.

Wells Branch Elementary School will open in August as Visual and Performing Arts Academy, a public school of choice. As a VPA, Wells Branch students will have the opportunity for special enrichment programs in the arts. The district is also exploring unique staff training opportunities to incorporate art into classroom instructional delivery. Research shows that students who participate in the arts are more likely to have social and academic success,.
RRISD will open its newest elementary school, Joe Lee Johnson, as STEAM Academy. The school will inspire excellence in education with an interdisciplinary, cross-curriculum, real-world process of teaching where core subjects are interwoven. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math – STEAM curriculum emphasizes collaborative, project-based learning and inquiry-based problem solving. Students will work together on projects, experiments, and hands-on activities guided by essential questions.
Both the VPA and STEAM models for elementary school will continue to align with the Aligned Round Rock Curriculum (ARRC) and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the VPA model will allow for some unique delivery of instruction and campus culture.
